Project Goes Viral with Pickup from Obama Campaign and Key Media Supporters

Andre Cymone, former bassist for Prince, successful solo artist, and hitmaking producer, has unveiled his first video in 25 years for “America,” his new single, available now at Cymone’s website.  The song was inspired by President Obama, and all proceeds from the sales of “America” will be donated to his re-election campaign. The video for “America” premiered on The Huffington Post.

Cymone took a break from working on his new solo album to record  “America.”  “The re-election of Barack Obama is imperative, our future is on the line,” said Cymone. “America is at a crossroads. We can either go back to the way things were or we can go forward and realize the dream. Let’s make the American dream come true: ‘power to the public’!”

To support the release of “America,” Cymone created the “My American Dream Is…” project, and asked fans to submit photos detailing their dreams for America. The project grew quickly, and one of the first photos Cymone launched was featured by the Obama campaign as its “Photo of the Day” on Twitter. Reverend Al Sharpton  posted the photo on Facebook, and commented  “This photo is a perfect representation of what’s important in this election. Who is looking out for the future?  It becomes clear through connecting the dreams of Americans to this election that President Obama is fighting for us, for our dreams.”

Chris Riemenschneider of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune called it a “killer track… the sort of anthemic rocker a lot of Prince’s fans would like to hear him crank out again.”

Cymone, who toured the world with Prince in the early days of his career, produced top 10 hits for Jody Watley and produced records with Tina Turner and Adam Ant. He enjoyed success as a solo artist after parting ways with Prince in the 80s. They got back together on the Prince-penned single “The Dance Electric” which was a top-ten R&B hit. Cymone’s solo catalog was recently reissued, to the delight of his fans.
